I learned at an early age that by being a part of community events, you get a chance to do good things for great causes -- while meeting new people and learning new skills. While the charities have changed and the roles have evolved, I try to keep my hand in at least 4 decent community projects every year. And of course the key rules to my participation in these events -- 1) It's got to be fun 2) There have to be great people involved and 3) No morning meetings (what can I say -- I'm much smarter at noon than I am at 7am...)
Current Favourite Causes
Recent Projects:
ArtAppeal - Supporting the CNIB (February 18, 2005) - for a third year in a row, I've maintained and designed the website for this event. It's one of Victoria's classiest events -- and best values. For $350 per couple you get a great evening of fun as well as piece of artwork valued at $350 or more!
Visions 2004 - Supporting Greater Victoria Hospitals Foundation (November 2004) - I designed the website and built the visuals for the event. As always, this event is the city's classiest event of the holiday season (Event Gallery)
Courtnall Celebrity Classic (July 16-18, 2004) - I'm helping design and setup the new website for www.courtnallclassic.com. This event raised over $800,000 for the development of a Mental Health Stabilization Unit at the new Diagnostic and Treatment Centre of the Royal Jubilee Hospital.
Richard Hunt Presents the "Big Open" Supporting Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Victoria (July 8-9, 2004) - I'm co-chairing the golf tournament with Richard Hunt's amazing wife Sandra. We're looking to add new fun things to this incredibly successful tournament.
2004 Women of Distinction Awards - This year I'm the technical producer for the event. I'll put together a couple of PowerPoint presentations and a promotional video that will help make the event even more special. The goal of the event is to raise awareness and celebrate some of the significant contributions local women have made both in our community and around the world.
2004 Mayors Golf Classic - I'm helping the organizing committee find sponsorships and new ways of making the event fun. Last year I played in the tournament as part of the Laurel Point Inn team. We won the tournament with 9 under par. We're hoping to repeat!
Camosun College Foundation "Tool Time" (April 7, 2004) - As a member of the Foundation's board, I'm co-chairing the annual dinner. This dinner will go to support the development of bursaries for students in the College's trades programs.
Together We Care Wrap Up Event (February 12, 2004) - I built a 5 minute video that captured the hilights of the Together We Care Capital Campaign. This campaign, led by Michael O'Connor and Leslee Farrell, raised $17 million to help fund equipment and capital purchases that will make our region's health care system even better.
Festival of Trees (November - January 2003) - I designed the logo and sponsorship kit for the Festival of Trees. The money from this event goes to support the BC Children's Hospital Foundation. It's one of the most fun and creative events in the community, as companies and organizations decorate Christmas Trees in a contest that is judged by the community.
And from WAY back...

October 2, 1999 - An Affair to Remember, supporting BC's Children's Hospital. It's going to be a great evening of Swing dancing and dining at the Laurel Point. Music provided by Del Richards and his Orchestra! Drop me an email if you want to know more.

October 1999 - Watch out Bachelor and Bachelorettes! Here comes "An Evening of Wishes III" benefiting the Make A Wish Foundation. This gala fundraiser features some great auction items, gourmet dinner all topped by a very classy Bachelor / Bachelorette Auction. When I get more details, I'll post them.

Fall / Winter '99 - Visions '99, supporting the Greater Victoria Hospital Foundation. This is one of those "must attend" events on the Victoria social calendar. Don't miss it. More details to follow!
